If you haven’t heard about the new Pathfinder Online MMO then you probably avoid Paizo’s website like the plague. Give it up, when the plague causes humans to mutate into zombies you’re going to be screwed anyways and the team at Goblinworks has been working hard for your attention! At the time of this article, they’re still $300,000 behind with only 4 days remaining. It’s going to be down to the wire.
They’re pulling out all the stops though and have offered a ton of different rewards for backers. If you haven’t checked it out yet, I highly urge you to. They’re going to be doing lots of cool things with the game world and personally I think it’ll be a fresh breath of air for the MMO industry. In fact, they’ve even begun to place their work on display in the “Environment Experience”. It basically lets you take a stroll around a 3d version of the Thornkeep dungeon. I like the look and it could be good but I cant believe that any MMORPG can can give me the same feel as pen/paper/dice/humans. It is just a less appealing place in general.
I agree with you. It would be near impossible for an MMO to replace the pen and paper experience. I think that’s probably why they’ve been having a hard time pushing it these last few days too. I think it’s admirable they’re going to try though. I flip back and forth between the table and MMO’s a lot so I’ve been watching it closely.
